Saying hello to the “westend” or English Bay Area

English Bay encompasses Denman St, Beach Avenue and Davie St. However in this month I will be concentrating on Beach Ave and Denman St. I feel Davie St deserves its on concentration and focus because it is central home of Vancouver’s vibrant Lgbtq community. However English Bay would remind you south miami beach. With its buildings, restaurants, vegetations(right down to the palm trees) and its proximity to the beach. The diverse community that coexist here plus the influence of the larger gay community in the area gives this area the vibrance and sophiscation of unadulterated, and unhabited sense of fun and happiness. I will focus on the food, and the buildings that you will find on denman and beach ave. In a later post I will focus on davie st, because I feel it deserves its on special month. Here is a sample so far of the area:

This an example of one of the restaurants located on Denman St. This restaurant is a main stay in this area. Look at the decor and it fits in to this area prefectly. The food was delicious and cheap for Vancouver’s standards

Saying Goodbye to Vancouver’s Coal Harbour

This is my last post on this area known as the most expensive area of vancouver’s downtown core. Next week we move on to a new area. Here are the last remaining pictures of the area. Some fun activities to enjoy in the area

There is a discount for British Columbia residents. This interactive tour of Canada, allows you to literally fly over Canada in a matter of 25 mins. Hold on to your straps as you go over mountains, glaciers and beautiful scenery.

Whether you rent a bike from the many bike stores and rentals or get a bike from shaw go, Coal harbour has many urban parks and bike lanes to enjoy a bike around the seawall

Enjoy a nice lunch and dinner as you sit at the patios of many restaurants over looking the water

Boats and cruise ship watching. Nothing more peaceful than catching the many boats and ships that dock on Vancouver’s port.

July goal setting-Did I meet my goals? Buying quality, trendy furniture for cheap

Did I meet the goals that I set for July 2019? The first goal was to get a tv, dining room table and chairs and a tv stand for $1300. The second goal was to learn how to do my make up for $100. I wasn’t able to find a make up school for $100. That is something I may do in the future, however I been relying on free tutorials from youtube to learn how to do my makeup.

The other goal was to buy furniture including tv stand, table and chairs and tv for $1300.

I break down the cost of each item:

  1. 39″ smart tv from best buy cost $294
  2. dining table for wayfair $253
  3. dining chair for wayfair $221
  4. tv stand for wayfair $250

The total cost for our purchase was $1018. We were under budget for almost $282. Here is a picture of our purchase:

The key to financial success

The key to financial success is a) peace of mind b) decluttering financially, spiritually, mentally and emotionally

How to get a peace of mind? Figure out who/what makes you happy and surround yourself with people and things that make you happy. Create a system that promotes and supports a healthy space and place for yourself

How to declutter? A cluttered life creates chaos and disorganization. A chaotic situation leads to bad financial choices and circumstances. So it is better to declutter yourself financially (make a budget, list all your debts and make plans to pay off debts), declutter spiritually (practice yoga, get in touch with your spiritually side, exercise, and make a clean space for yourself in your surroundings), declutter mentally (clear yourself of negative thoughts and learn to appreciate and love yourself) and finally declutter emotionally (stay away from toxic situations, environment and people and value the energy you bring around you)

More to discover in Coal Harbour

Coal Harbour is distinct in the sense that it wants to appeal to “rich sense of lifestyle.” It has food places, boutiques, stores and restaurants that appeal to that sense of being rich.

Should a couple have separate or joint account: A case study of a couple with separate finances

I have a one track mind when it comes to family finances. I believe a couple must have a joint bank account to deal with family expenses such as mortgage, rent, utilities and groceries. However each adult member of the family also must have a seperate account to deal with separate personal financing involving personal care and self care.

However I had a recent conversation with a family member about how her and her finances work. Her and her husband have no joint account and they decide who pays for each area of the family finace such as mortage, utilities, and groceries. They have been married for more than 5 years, and it seems to be working for them because they own a home, have two children, and enjoy family outings and vacations. They also have individual savings and have money to take care of their personal needs.

So the question begs what is the best way to handle family finances since a separate account seems to working for this particular couple. Here is how to figure out what may be the best option for you and your spouse. The studies show having a joint account is the best way to go, however if you choose to operate with separate account, here is what conditions should exists:

a) You both have to be responsible with money and both willing to contribute to what areas you responsible for regardless of your situations

b) Both of you have to have fulltime, and stable work that can separately cover the family expenses

c) Both have to be non-traditionally minded. You both have to be fluid with the sense of what both genders are resposible for

If these conditions exist then you could have a successful separate financial setup. However my only reservation about separate bank accounts is that it does not promote team work or family planning. It may not be reflected in the short term, but could have a major effect in the long term. I am proud of this family member and her finacial achievements with her husband, however my concern sometimes is the lack of planning. I asked the question “how do you decide where to eat and who pays when you go out to a restaurant?” the answer was “we alternate and stick to restaurants that are within the same price range” To me, it seems there is a lack of teamwork and too much compromise. We will see what the future holds, but seems to be working for them because they have achieved a family goal that many in Vancouver can only dream of achieving.

The expensive, beautiful, scenic, area known Coal Harbour Vancouver

Even the air is better in Coal Harbour. Starting from cross section between Dunsmuir St and Burrard and going along till the waterfront hits stanley park, this the richest area of downtown Vancouver, and one of the richest parts of Vancouver. The most expensive hotels are located here, along with condo rentals (purchases) and townhouses. When you walk the streets of coal harbour, you feel a sense of being wealthy with all the niche stores, lifestyle boutiques, hotels and food choices and restaurants. A favorite among tourist and ships that dock on the port, Coal Harbour is where professional hockey atletics choose to call their home. Here are a few pics of coal Harbour:
