A night at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra-experiencing the finer life in Vancouver

We decided to go to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to experience the best Vancouver has to offer interms of classical music. The tickets for the night was relatively cheap. For two people it cost a total of $46. We rented a expensive 2018 SUV for that night, which allowed us to arrive in style. The cost for the car, plus insurance for the car was $66. Also we decided to have a nice dinner at a German restaurant for a cost of $73. The whole entire night was a total cost of $185 to bring a little bit of class and elegance into our lives. Here are the pictures:

Getting a raise at work and how you should work it into your family budget

Good news. I recently got a raise at work. It works out to be about an extra $1.83 an hour. Making me earn an extra $200 dollars a month after taxes. So the next question becomes how do we handle this raise as a family? How much should we distribute to various areas our family budget including lifestyle, savings, debt and monthly family budget. We have concluded that best way is to split the extra income four ways, which means contributing an extra $50 to each division of household family budget per month. $50 dollars would go towards lifestyle, savings, debt and monthly family budget. You will notice this change when I break down our family budget at the end of the month. One thing I have yet to do is to catalogue our debt and show how we plan to pay our debt but I will be doing that in the future. Our plan is to continue to enjoy our lives in Vancouver and live a healthy and happy life.

New beginnings, new area Robson St, Vancouver

We are going to look at the area of Robson St. For our posting for this month we are going to focus on a smaller portion of Robson starting from Granville St and ending at Denman St. Here you find the most places to shop and eat. This street presents a place of indulgence and happiness for those who love to shop and eat. If you are a fan of asian food, particularly Japanese and Korean food, this is the place to visit. Ramen noodle houses and Korean BBQ spots, line the streets of Robson St. Lets begin our adventure at Robson St with a few pictures:

September Budget update for a family of two in an expensive city-Did we meet our budget?

So September is over, and the question is did we meet our budget.? For this budget I got paid five times instead of the usually four times because of the pay cycle. As a result my takehome pay after taxes for the month was $2750. So the total family income excluding taxes was $4850. We ended up spending $4670 as a family. So we ended up with a surplus for the month. Yeah for September. Our savings at the end of August was $1152. With the surplus in September, our savings is now $1332. Here is the breakdown:

Three lessons in life to encourage happiness and wealth

  1. Marry the right person or remain single. Marriage is not for everyone. However if you choose to get married make sure the person who you choose to marry has similar vision, values and goals in life. The person whom you choose to marry will affect the outcome and happiness of life more than anything else
  2. Pursue your passions. Set your goals and reward yourself for every goal that you reach. Also remember that life is not a straigth line, you will go through ups, downs and the same level, just remember to keep reaching for what you want, and there isn’t just one path to one particular goal
  3. Focus on your path. Don’t be distracted by your envy or jealousy of others. Stop keeping up with the “joneses” and focus on your own goals. Remember everyone is on their own unique journey in life

Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant-It’s hip to be a hippie and yuppie at the same time here

The hippie and yuppie culture is strong here in Mount Pleasant. There is a pull to be artistist, laid back, consume an excessive amount of marijuana but all at the same time take care of yourself financially, spiritually and acquire lots of wealth and display that wealth. The confusion here is strong, and no where is the hipster culture embaraced more than it is here in Vancouver’s Mountain Pleasant. Here are few highlights so far:
